Day 2: Gathering Information
Today was a day to gather information for our group in order to continue and understand the concept of what we are doing to help the school. We brainstormed some ideas & what we are trying to do as 7 grade students to help the school reduce the trash that it produces, this is what we came up with:
“We are a group of seventh grade students trying to reduce the amount of trash HKA produces every day, by making the school more aware of their consumption”
We also found out that one of the 11th graders: Luca C, could help us on our project. We send an email to him asking him to arrange a time for us to meet so we can discuss what we can do as a community. Since today was a Wednesday we did not enough time, so im afraid thats the only 2 things we could finish for today.
This is our letter to Luca:
Luca,
I am a 7th grade student, working on a project (math and science combined). My group is divided in two: Schools Waste and Plastic Recycling. Mr. Arnold has told us that you and some other 11th graders are also working on a similar project. He mentioned that on monday and tuesday you and some other students are collecting the entire schools trash after school. 1 of our students have volunteered to help: Claire. Some more people may be volunteering later on and I will let you know if they do.
I also would like to talk to you about you and some other 11th grade students picking up and sorting the lunch time trash. We are wondering if we can help and look at the numbers because the plastic group needs to know the plastic amount. Also my group (trash) needs to know the amount of everything else. Especially food. I am hoping you consider this offer as we are willing to help!
Thanks,
Ella
